Previous NVIDIA graphics driver versions 555.85 through 565.90 were created using a version of Microsoft's MSVC which utilizes SSE 4.2 CPU instructions. When installing NVIDIA graphics drivers 555.85 through 565.90 on systems with older older CPUs that do not support SSE 4.2 CPU instructions, the PC may crash and reboot.
While CPUs without SSE 4,2 instructions are officially not supported on Microsoft's Windows 10/Windows 11, Microsoft Windows Update may download and install NVIDIA graphics driver version 560.94 if an older driver is detected. This will cause your PC to bugcheck on CPUs that do not support SSE 4.2 instructions.
On October 22nd, 2024, we released NVIDIA graphics driver version 566.03. This newer driver uses an updated version of MSVC that resolves this issue. If your PC uses an unsupported CPU, please download and install the latest NVIDIA graphics driver from the Drivers tab of the NVIDIA app, GeForce Experience or GeForce.com.
Additional info:
To check if your CPU supports the SSE 4.2 CPU instruction used by MSVC 17.8.6:
1. Download the utility Coreinfo from Microsoft's website:
2. Extract the Coreinfo zip file contents.
3. From within the extracted folder, right-click and select Open in Terminal

4. A Terminal window will appear. Type the following command as shown in the screenshot below and then press ENTER:
.\coreinfo64 -f

5. If this is the first time that you launch Coreinfo, a license agreement will appear. Agree to proceed.

6. Your PC's supported CPU instruction sets will be listed. Look for POPCNT to verify if it is supported by your CPU.
