"Run with graphics processor" missing from context menu: Change in process of assigning GPUs to use for applications

Beginning with the Windows 10 May 2020 Update (20H1), the method for selecting which graphics processor to use for applications has changed.  This has the following effects:
  • There is no longer a “Run with graphics processor” option in the NVIDIA Control Panel Dekstop Menu to enable.  Consequently, the “Run with graphics processor” option is no longer available from the context menu in Windows 10 May 2020 Update as there was in previous OS versions.

  • The graphics processor that the Windows 10 OS selects overrides any settings made in the NVIDIA Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings > Global Settings | Program Settings >Preferred graphics processor setting for that application.  If the OS does not specify a graphic processor preference for a given application, then users can specify the preferred graphics processor to use from the NVIDIA Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings >
Global Settings | Program Settings > Preferred graphics processor setting.

  • To force Windows to use a GPU  for a particular app using the Windows display settings, follow the steps below:
    1. On your keyboard, press the Windows key + the letter "i" at the same time to bring up the Windows Settings
    2. Select System
    3. Select Display from the left column
    4. Choose Graphics setting link from the bottom of the page
    5. Click on the Browse button and then choose the executable for the application you wish to force the GPU
    6. Click on the Options button to bring up the GPU select window
    7. Choose the GPU you wish to override for the given application as shown in the screenshot below
    8. Click on the Save button
