Multi-Plane Overlay (MPO) is a feature in Windows 11 that allows the GPU to compose multiple image layers (or “planes”) independently before presenting them on the display. This can improve performance and reduce power consumption by offloading certain composition tasks from the desktop window manager to dedicated hardware. If you wish to disable Multi-Plane Overlay (MPO), you may do so by following the steps below:
How to Disable Multi-Plane Overlay (MPO):
1. Download the registry file mpo_disable.reg from the Attachments section below.
2. Double-click the file and accept the prompt to add it to your system registry.
3. Restart your PC to apply the changes.
How to Restore Multi-Plane Overlay (MPO):
If you wish to re-enable MPO:
1. Download the registry file mpo_restore.reg.
2. Double-click the file and accept the prompt to add it to your system registry.
3. Restart your PC to apply the changes.
3. Restart your PC to apply the changes.
Starting with Release 610 drivers, Multi-Plane Overlay (MPO) is now supported on all monitors in multi-monitor configurations on Blackwell GPUs, improving performance and power efficiency when using multiple displays. For optimal functionality, please update Windows to the latest OS version (at least build 26100.7705 or 26200.7705).
