This error message, "unable to download required files for installation", indicates that the installer is not able to continue with the installation due to a failure to download required files.
The installer is failing to store a downloaded package on the system drive (the drive where the operating system is installed). There can be couple of reasons for this failure, such as:
• Lack of disk space
• Corrupted system drive
Options to resolve the problem:
1) Check if the system drive is running out of disk space
a. For Windows 7 and below, open the Start menu and select “Computer” or “My Computer”
For Windows 8, press the Windows key on your keyboard and type “computer”. The Computer icon will be shown under “Apps”.
For Windows 8.1, open the Start menu and select “This PC”.
b. On Windows Vista and above, below the system drive, the amount of free space available can be seen.
On Windows XP, right-click on the system drive and select “Properties”.
The amount of free space available can be seen on the “Free space” row
c. If the amount of free space available is less than 1.0 GB, then go ahead and perform cleanup operations to free up more space on the drive. Please go through the link corresponding to your operating system to free up space on your system drive:
i. Windows XP: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956324
ii. Windows Vista: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/strategies-freeing-disk-space#1TC=windows-vista
iii. Windows 7: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/strategies-freeing-disk-space#1TC=windows-7
iv. Windows 8 and above: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/free-up-disk-space
d. Once there is at least 1.0 GB of disk space free on the system drive, please re-run the installer, and see if installation is successful now.
2) If the above steps did not resolve the issue, run error checking on the system drive.
a. Repeat steps 1a) and 1b)
b. Follow the link corresponding to your operating system to perform error checking on the system drive:
i. Windows XP: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315265
ii. Windows Vista: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/check-your-hard-disk-for-errors
iii. Windows 7 and above: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/check-a-drive-for-errors
c. Re-run the installer and see if installation is successful.
