HOW CAN I REDUCE LAG OR IMPROVE STREAMING QUALITY WHEN USING GEFORCE NOW?

GeForce NOW games are running from the cloud, which means they are running on a server in a data center, not directly from your Mac.

If you experience a reduction in streaming quality or lag, you may wish to try the following tips.

  • If possible use a wired ethernet connection.

  • Use a tested network adapter if your Mac does not have a wired ethernet connection.  Please view our list of supported network adapters.

  • If no wired ethernet connection is available, use a 5GHz Wi-Fi router.

    • Upgrade your router's firmware to the latest version.

    • Make sure you are connecting to your router at 5GHz mode. Newer routers allow users to connect at 2.4GHz and 5GHz. The router's settings menu should allow you to set up a separate SSID for 5GHz mode.

    • Move closer to your Wi-Fi router. The farther away you are from your router, the lower the signal, which will degrade your Wi-Fi performance.

    • Try to get better line of sight to your router. Obstacles inside your home, such as walls and floors, can affect Wi-Fi performance.

    • Use Android or iOS apps like "WiFi Analyzer" to find unused Wi-Fi channels in your home.

  • Check to see if other devices in your home are connected to the Internet and downloading files. Anything that uses significant bandwidth, such as streaming video, downloading files and file-sharing can affect GeForce NOW performance. Try disabling these to improve your experience.

  • Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) may be experiencing network congestion at certain times of the day. You can run the GeForce NOW network test to check your speeds at different times during the day and see if your performance changes. If this continues to happen, you may want to consider switching ISPs.

  • Check your home network to see how many routers, switches or hubs are between your cable modem and your Mac. Each network component can add latency to your overall experience, which can result in lag.
