Known issues for virtualised servers with Intel Xeon Processor E5 v4, E7 v4, and D-1500 families v4 and v5

This issue is thought to affect all hypervisors e.g. VMware ESXi, Citrix Xenserver. It is a BIOS and hardware issue though. While virtualized servers including those with GRID GPU products may be affected this is not an NVIDIA issue and is not a VMware/Citrix issue. It is an issue that can only be resolved via a BIOS update from your server vendor.

Symptoms and errors:

· VMware have documented how this issue could affect ESXi here: https://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=2146388

· Purple screen of death (PSOD)

· GPUs may fall off the bus

Known affected systems

This issue is thought to affect all server brands with Intel Xeon Processor E5 v4, E7 v4, and D-1500 families v4 and v5.

A high number of incidents have been reported with Dell R730 servers using these processors and users experiencing symptoms are advised to contact Dell for a BIOS update containing the required microcode revision.
