NVIDIA Windows XP 32-bit/64-bit driver installer displays an invalid digital signature

Microsoft has made changes in the past towards a new policy for Certificate Authorities (CAs) that deprecates the use of the SHA1 algorithm in SSL and code signing certificates, in favor of SHA2.  The NVIDIA installer will not appear valid under Windows XP 32-bit and Windows XP 64-bit because these oeprating systems do not support SHA-256 in the root chain.  Under Windows 7 and above, the installer digital signature will pass correctly
