Active vs Passive DP->DVI adaptors

On NVIDIA Quadro boards, the choice between active and passive DisplayPort adaptors is driven by the output resolution and frame rate (just like the choice between a single link or dual link DVI cable).

If your board did not come with adaptors you can purchase them in the US from store.nvidia.com under cables. NVIDIA's workstation partners (Dell, HP, Lenovo, FTS) and our channel partners (Elsa, Leadtek, PNY) can also provide you with approved adaptors.

Passive DP->DVI Adaptors support up to 1920x1200 @ 60 Hz (24 color bits per pixel) or a max pixel clock of 165MHz.

Active DP->DVI Adaptors support a maximum pixel clock of 330MHz and can drive resolutions like

· 1920x1200 @120Hz (24 color bits per pixel)

· 2560x1600 @60Hz (24 color bits per pixel)

Keep in mind that DP->DVI-DL adaptors require power from a USB port to operate correctly.
